Range of Application

Wireless back-fat meter is a kind of ultrasonic ranging method to measure the thickness of sow's back-fat at P2 point, and transmit the tested data to cell phone via Bluetooth.

In order to facilitate the statistics of pig farms, we plot the data of different time periods into a curve, which is convenient to understand the fat thickness of sows in different time periods.

P2 point back-fat is a basic data commonly used in the international pig industry, which refers to the thickness of back-fat at the last rib of the pig at 6.5 cm from the midline of the back. The change of P2 back-fat thickness determines the growth level of sows throughout their lives. The reproductive performance of sows can be effectively improved by grasping the P2 back-fat level at each stage.

Usage

Apply an amount of gel to the test site, as ultrasound cannot penetrate air or air bubbles. Place the probe against the animal's skin and gently rotate it to ensure that there are no air or bubbles between the skin and the probe. Note that the probe must be kept perpendicular to the back, as tilting it may result in erroneous measurements.

Due to the different measuring positions and the deformation of the fat after slaughter, the fat thickness of a live animal obtained by the back-fat tester is usually a little different from the real data.

Note: Irregularities in the back-fat may affect the penetration of the ultrasound waves. Move the probe to allow the ultrasound to pass through and the reading will be displayed. The thickness of the back-fat layer is not the same everywhere, usually two or three layers in close proximity to each other will ensure accuracy. Older pigs with thicker skin and more dead skin are more difficult to access with the probe. If necessary, you can shave off the hair at the measurement site, moisten the skin with hot water to soften it, apply oil or water and wait 1-2 minutes before measuring.

Frequently Asked Questions
1. What is the P2 point measurement?
The P2 point refers to the thickness of back-fat at the last rib of the pig, specifically 6.5 cm from the midline of the back, which is a standard indicator for reproductive performance.
2. How does the device connect to a mobile phone?
The device uses Bluetooth 4.0 to connect wirelessly to an Android application for real-time data display and storage.
3. Why is coupling gel necessary for measurements?
Ultrasound waves cannot penetrate air. The gel eliminates air bubbles between the probe and skin to ensure accurate readings.
4. How long can the device be used on a full charge?
With its built-in 4200mAh battery and power-saving mode, the device provides more than 15 hours of continuous working time.
5. What should I do if the skin of the pig is too thick?
For older pigs, you can shave the measurement site and moisten the skin with hot water or oil for 1-2 minutes before testing to improve penetration.
6. What is the measurement accuracy of the ECI-300W?
The device features a resolution of 1mm and an error margin of only ±1mm, providing highly reliable data for farm management.
